I quite like this idea.
I myself of a scavanger of unused craft, have recliamed 11 frigates to date, albiet hard to do.
The idea of wreaks is fantastic, i can just see that tackling Ceptor suddenly burnt into flames, break orbit from a random BS and just spin out of control leaving in its wake of firey trial as you would normally get with low structure.
I can see why people are against having a wreck getting repaired and then coming back into fuctionality. Currently, no Remote Hull Rep exists, but, in my opionion, having a ship spin out of control, its mods still acting to the last cycle etc seems somewhat unrealistic. Your in an out of control ship, your shields have been breached and your armour stripped away and all but a few bulkheads are holding your craft together, wont all those nice critical systems be open to the viod? your on fire, what makes that fire? your capacitor suddenly has holes in it, leaking what precious energy your reactor is giving out, a ship need a cap to function right? as does the mods, if this situation were to come about, your cap should be draining itself dry and even quicker if mods were still active. this might be a counter argument to having a ship go critical and giving damage output, which im all for, its like a giant grenade going off in space, that BS is surrounded by armour plants, has an enormous capacitor, if the blast is equal to what ever cap is left, assuming that FINAL killing shot is fired, thats a massive explosion, all the shrapnel is going to hurt, frigs on the other hand, think of how much room the reactor and capacitor is on those, add in the armour and what ever else, thats not a big bang if im honest.
The idea of reactor damage output is very intriging and as some have said, somewhat exploitable, its needs alot more thought upon it but ive a feeling it will be a nice implimentation.
As far as fleet battles are concerned, having not been in one myself limits my available knowledge upon the mechanics of primary targets and the implementation of wrecks. Though, from what I can gather, having a wreck is adding insult to injury, youve shot down an enemy AF, its flmaming off into the distance, unable to do anything, whether the pilot ejects or not, thats an AF out there which is just sitting there, waiting to be destroyed or salvaged suddenly, later on 'O look, isnt that one of our AFs our enemy is flying now?.
This of course, is all based upon the assumption that a craft isnt instagibbed in one shot, even seen a Dread hit a Cruiser with a wreaking shot, BOOM!! o well, only a loot can for you. What would be better? having a handful of mods the enemy had, or the whole thing, ships, cargo, mods... I know what i would like more XD
Self Destruct, yeah, that might be a problem. Once again, given the right conditions, your cap is dying much faster, doesnt self dentonation require some energy at least to rip apart what is left of your craft? a full cap = boom, but what about half a cap? 50% chance of self destucting? going down in % the lower the cap is? 1/100 is still a figure. Just food for thought XD
More thought is needed in my opinion, but a fantastic idea non the less.
